A 23 year old Harvard Grad, Tomi Adeyemi, just scored a 7 figure deal with FOX 2020 to have her book, turn into a movie.
Her debut novel, Children of Blood and Bone, showcasing the Black Lives Movement through fictional characters, broke the record as the biggest young adult publishing deal made in 2016.
In a time where racial discrimination is prominent, Adeyemi, felt it was important to represent the voice of a community, that is rarely depicted in the fantasy fiction world.
“Bringing both Black Lives Movement and #blackgirlmagic into fiction is extremely important. When you take something like Black Lives Matter and you put it in this world, you come in with all your preconceived notions.”
She continued by saying “Even though it’s fantasy, all the issues, all the obstacles I really tried based it into something that was real.”
It’s as real as it gets, seeing that her book she said was done due to the drive her Nigerian parents, instilled in her, will be coming to a big screen near you.
