13 members of the Day Without a Woman” march were arrested outside of the Trump International Hotel and Tower earlier today.
Although police did not specify who exactly was detained, it was revealed through the Women’s March Twitter page, that some of their organizers were arrested and are still held in custody. Some of them include Bob Bland, Carmen Perez,Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory.
Another one of their tweet read “We are not sure what precinct we are being taken to at the moment. But we are together, reSisters. #DayWithoutAWoman.”
Police stated that no charges have been filed against them.
In light that today is International Women’s Day, the organizers behind this movement wanted to remind people of the values that women of all races have brought to the socio-economic system, “while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity,” according to their website.
